Eliot – Theodore C. "Ted" Place, 80, of Eliot, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at the Wentworth Douglas Hospital in Dover.
He was born on November 4, 1936 in Eliot, Maine a son of the late Guy and Hazel (Grover) Place; attended Eliot Schools and served his country in the United States Army.
Ted was a self-employed Mason for over 35 years in the seacoast area.
He enjoyed golf, reading, listening to music, gardening, making furniture, spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren; loved landscaping, raising chickens, and was an avid Red Sox fan. Ted also enjoyed his vigorous disagreements and discussions about politics.
He was predeceased by his brothers, Guy Place and his wife, Phyllis, Leon Place and his wife, Doris, and Richard Place. His sister, Deborah LaMontagne also predeceased him.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Roberta Place; two sons, Eric Place and his wife, Jenny, Christopher and his wife, Therese; daughter, Kathryn Place and her partner, Steve Foster; brothers, Arthur Place and his wife, Rene', Ronald Place and his wife, Susan; sister, Calista Place; sister-in-laws, Jean Place, Florence Canavan and her husband, Charles, Patricia Virden, Sandra Slaney and William and Linda Slaney; grandchildren, Ryan Place-Beavers, Aidan and Jonah Place, Gabe and Sarah Place, Avery and Brock Harrison; and several nieces and nephew. Ted is also survived by his beloved canine companion, Sophie.
Services: A time of visitation will be held from 5-8PM on Friday, March 24, 2017 at J. S. Pelkey Funeral Home, 125 Old Post Road, Kittery, ME. A funeral service will be held at 11:00AM on Saturday, March 25, 2017 at the Eliot Congregational Church, 1361 State Road, Eliot, ME. Flowers will be accepted. Interment will military honors will be held in the Brooks Memorial Park at a later date.
