Obituary

The youngest of nine children born to James and Frances (Goodrich) Sawyer.  Tom was born and raised in Portsmouth, NH. Graduating from Portsmouth High School in 1968.  He worked for 46 years at Portsmouth Hannaford.  He started at the store when it was Pic N Pay, owned by the The Amergian family, and stayed through many changes and owners, retiring in 2016.

In 1998, he married Storm, and they settled in Maine.  First to Eliot, then to her parents' home in South Berwick after their deaths. Along the way, he also inherited chosen family by marriage. His daily life now includes his Sister-in-law Penny Grogan, brother-in-law Mike Grogan, nephews Ryan and Wesley Grogan, brother-in-law by choice Chris Hunt brother by choice, and sister-in-law by choice Elza Pearson.

Tom was an avid sports fan.  The New York Yankees, Celtics, Bruins, and Patriots were the favorites with hats and T-shirts for every occasion.

Music was huge in Tom's life, including concerts and Karaoke as well as a gigantic collection of cassettes and CDs.

In the last few years, Tom's health diminished his ability to travel.  He kept up with family by phone, carefully checking in on far-flung nieces, nephews, and grand nieces and nephews throughout. On "The Hill," there were nephews, nieces, and a brand-new great niece (Miss Sophie) to keep him busy despite his limitations.

Tom was predeceased by his parents, his sisters Audry O'Brian, Lois Wessling, Frances Furbish and brother James Jr. He is survived by his wife Storm, brothers David and Steve Sawyer, sisters Joan O'Brien and Barbra Timmons, chosen brother-in-law Chris Hunt, sister-in-law Penny Grogan and sister-in-law by choice Elsa Pearson, brother in-law Mike Grogan and many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

Special thanks to his caregiver, Lisa Cloutier, the Visiting Nurses of York Hospital, and Wentworth Hospice.
