Victoria Carol Smith “Tootsie” 11/23/1944 - 7/22/2026
Vicky was born at Alice Peck Day Memorial Hospital in Lebanon, NH. From an early age, her father called her “Tootsie” (after the Al Jolson song), and the name stuck. She and her five brothers spent their childhood in a home on Summer Street in Lebanon. In 1963, Vicky married Craig Holman, and they moved to Kittery, where they had two sons. They purchased their first home in Portsmouth, where their boys grew up. Craig passed away in 1972.
On Columbus Day 1974, Vicky married Vaughn Smith. They made their home in Eliot and were married for over 50 years. When Vaughn suffered from disabling dementia, Vicky was his loving caregiver for over a decade until his death in March.
Vicky worked at several different jobs, including Yokens Gift Shop and the Kittery Trading Post. She and Vaughn operated their family business, RCI Electrical. Vicky was the administrator, while Vaughn and Paul did the electrical work.
Vicky’s family is forever grateful to York Oncology Services and Beacon Hospice for the kind and compassionate care they provided to Vicky and her family throughout the past year.
Vicky will be remembered for her feisty attitude and quick wit. She loved red cardinals, pigs, Corvettes and Cadillacs, sunflowers, and her family. She is survived by her brothers: Carl, Robert, and David Contois; her sons: Chris and Paul Holman, and many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.
A service will be held at J. S. Pelkey Funeral Home on Saturday, August 15, from 12-2. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to York Hospital Cancer Living Well Fund to assist their oncology services.
