Obituary

Virginia C. Moore, 91, of Eliot, Maine, passed away on April 7, 2026.

Ginny was born on March 25, 1935, in Cornwall, NY, to Irving and Virginia Kraemer, both teachers. In 1941, the family moved to Washington, DC. She attended public schools, including Western High School, where she was yearbook editor, and earned a BA from William Smith College in Geneva, NY, forming lifelong friendships. After graduating, she worked as a secretary at the Department of Justice, where she met John Moore, a Korean War veteran, whom she married in 1957. That year, he joined the U.S. State Department. For the next 28 years, Ginny and John raised their family across postings in Norway, Pakistan, England, Virginia, the Philippines, Canada, and Australia, with a final tour in London (1982–85). She loved England—its gardens and churches—collected antiques, and, in the 1960s, made exquisite rubbings of medieval brasses.

When John retired in 1985, Ginny persuaded him to settle in Eliot, Maine, returning to her father's New England roots. There she joined several book groups and served as president of the Garden Club. After John's death in 2001, she remained in Eliot, sustained by a close circle of friends.

In late 2025, Ginny moved to Sentry Hill Assisted Living in York, Maine. In her final two weeks, she celebrated her 91st birthday and Easter with family, including a glass of champagne, and saw all eight grandchildren and two of her great-grandchildren. An avid Red Sox fan, her last words on April 5 were, "Put the ball game on when you leave." Granddaughter Saisie Moore was at her side when she passed early on April 7.

Ginny was predeceased by her husband John and her beloved son Eric, who had settled in Shropshire with his English wife. She is survived by her daughter Nancy and son Thomas, along with eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren in Maine, Massachusetts, New York, Pennsylvania, Quebec, and England. Ginny will be interred in the columbarium of Arlington National Cemetery next to her husband John.  In lieu of flowers, Ginny requested that any donations in her memory be made to the William Fogg Library in Eliot, Maine (williamfogglibrary.org).
