Obituary

Kittery- Walter A. Gove Jr, 84 of Friend Street in Kittery went home to be with his lord on March 4, 2020 at Wentworth Douglass Hospital in Dover following a hard fought battle against lung cancer.

Born in Portsmouth New Hampshire on November 9, 1935 he was the son of the late Walter A. Sr and Frances ( Hankin ) Gove. He was raised in Rye, NH and attended local schools including Portsmouth High School.

Walter embraced a career as a truck driver traveling all across the country spending over twenty five  years working for LCB Transport before retirement.

He married his loving wife Linda (Barthelemy) in 1976 and together they made a home in Kittery and raised their family. They enjoyed travel together, Walter loved to "Go and Do"  especially trips to Florida, the worlds fair in Knoxville, New York City, Las Vegas and many others . He and his family enjoyed camping, trying a number of great places before falling in love with the narrows in Bar Harbor making it their go to spot for many years. While there he enjoyed exploring all that the region has to offer including Arcadia National Park.

Walter was a foundation member at the First Congregational Church of Eliot, UCC for many years, singing in the choir, serving on the Board of Deacons, and property board. Always the go to guy, he made sure coats had a place to hang, the front doors were adorned with hand made wooden crosses from his much loved wood working shop, the alter had a beautiful bible holder and all done behind the scenes without frill . He was a much loved adult camper at "camp expedition everyone " at Pilgrim Lodge each summer.

Most recently he adored time with his youngest grandchildren, watching them grow and sharing time with his Lionel toy train collection and model railroad display in his home. Not often seen with out western boots and a snappy cowboy hat and coat, he was affectionately know to those who knew and loved him as "cowboy" .

Walter will be dearly missed by those who were blessed with him in their lives, his wife Linda, daughter Rachel and her husband Eric Fontaine and their children Brayden and Lainey, sons Walter III and Thomas Gove, sisters Priscilla Baker and Betty and her husband Ray Vallerie, several grandchildren, great grandchildren and nieces and nephews and extended family.
