Walter S. Jackson (Walt) of Kittery, Maine, lost his battle with cancer on June 27, 2025, surrounded by family. Born January 17, 1936, at York Hospital. Walt grew up in Kittery and married his High School sweetheart, Judy Putnam Jackson.
Walt attended Traip Academy, then graduated from University of New Hampshire. Post graduation, Walt joined the US Airforce as a pilot. After serving his country, he left to work for Ford Motors Co. After a few years, Walt left Ford and moved back to Kittery, where he took over the family business, Jackson's Hardware and Marine.
Walt was a competitive athlete throughout his life, but golf was his passion. He was a member of Portsmouth CC, and after retiring from the family business, he could be found there most days. He and his wife Judy have been very involved in the Kittery community, where they have lived most of their lives.
Walt loved his family and dog friends. He was pre-deceased by his parents, Chester and Luana Jackson, sister Betty Roberdeaux, brother Chet and wife Collette. He is survived by wife, Judy Putnam Jackson, son Scott Jackson and wife Loya of N Myrtle Beach, SC, and his daughter Debra Dumont and husband Mike of Sanbornville, NH. Grandchildren, Sean Jackson, Hayley Nichols, Matthew Dumont and wife Lauren, Kyle Dumont and wife Alex, Bryan Dumont and wife Lisa, and step-granddaughter Leya Levine. As well as four great-grandchildren. Additionally brother in law Bill Putnam and his wife Ann, Sister in law Linda O'Malley and partner Rob Reynolds, several nieces and nephews and good friend Carol Philbrook.
A small, private family service will take place on a later date. Donations are welcome at York Hospital, or The Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation, P.O. Box 414238, Boston, MA 02241-4238 . Care for the Jackson family has been entrusted to the JS Pelkey and Son Funeral Home.
