Obituary

Wayne Alan Cheverie, of Eliot, Maine, passed away on July 23rd at home following a period of failing health. Born in Eastport, Maine on July 30, 1947, he was the son of Kenneth and Ruth Cheverie. He attended a variety of schools before graduating from Salem (NH) High School in 1965. Shortly after high school, he enrolled in the apprenticeship program at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, where he would work for almost 40 years as an Electrical Instrument Mechanic before retiring in 2005.

Shortly after he began working at the Shipyard, he met and married the love of his life, Sandra McInnes Cheverie. They were married on June 8, 1968, and recently celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary. They enjoyed camping, going on cruises with family or friends, or simply driving to the Nubble for a hot dog and an ice cream while sitting on his father's memorial bench.

Wayne enjoyed music, cycling and golf. He loved his Boston sports teams, especially the Patriots and Red Sox. Most of all, he enjoyed attending any and all events, games, or shows that his children and grandchildren participated in. He rarely missed one of Keith's baseball games, whether they were in Eliot, Worcester or Boston. When Karen took up competitive cheer, he was leading the cheers and waving the pom-poms in the stands.

Later, he was the grandfather that routinely attended every little league game, every band concert, every musical that his grandchildren were a part of. It didn't matter if they were just down the road, or two hours away, he just always showed up.

He is survived by his wife Sandy; his loving children, Keith Cheverie and his wife Caryn and Karen Gori and her husband Jeremy; his cherished grandchildren, Jordyn and Charly Cheverie, Tim and AJ Gori.  He is remembered by his sister Ann Anderson, her husband Ken, sister Jane Cheverie and niece Jill LeBlanc along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends are invited to visit with his family on Friday, August 2nd from 6-9pm in the JS Pelkey and Son Funeral Home 125 Old Post Road Kittery Maine 03904. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to Marshwood Youth Baseball. Donations can be sent to PO Bos 636, South Berwick, ME 03908 or via Venmo @marshwoodyouthbaseball.
