Wilfred "Red"
Crossman
Jul 19, 1937 — Jan 8, 2021
York - January 8th, 2021 Wilfred (Red) Crossman went to his Heavenly Home after a long battle with Parkinson's and Dementia. He was born July 19, 1937 in Hampden, Maine to Leah Gould Crossman and Wilfred Harding Crossman. He was predeceased by his parents and siblings, Lloyd Crossman, Benjamin Crossman, Berniece (Bunny) Gendreau, Francis (Fran) McLaughlin, and Judith (Judy) Dahl.
He grew up in Winterport, Maine and graduated from Winterport High School as Valedictorian. He attended one year at University of Maine. He joined the US Air Force in 1959 in the enlisted ranks. The next spring his former landlord/future Mother-in-Law proposed by mail. He came home in October and married his lifelong partner, Marjorie M. Johnson. They started their family by having a son in N. Carolina. Because of the year at the University of Maine, he was selected by the Air Force to finish his degree at Colorado State University and went on to become a Regular Officer. He continued his education by earning two Masters Degrees. During moves around the country their family expanded by having a daughter. He served one year in Viet Nam and retired after serving 21 years.
He went on to work another 20 years in computers and even led a team in the South Of France for 4 years. He fully retired in the year 2000.
His life as a Christian was always among his strongest influences and he was an example to all who knew and served with him. For over 40 years he served in multiple capacities as a youth leader, Deacon, Church Bus Driver, Billy Graham's television crusades, and Disaster Relief.
As a family man he was always concerned about providing for his immediate and extended family. He was always adventurous and loved to try new things like zip lining, indoor sky- diving, snowmobiling, 4-wheeling, anything to be outside. He had hunted and fished all his life and made two holes-in-one playing golf in retirement.
Red had a reserved, humble nature with a powerful sense of humor.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Marjorie Crossman, His son, Mark Crossman (Martha), Daughter, Laura Crossman, Grandchildren Stephen Cook (Dawn), Jennifer Middleton (Dan), Cheyanna Cook (Kellie), Kristopher Crossman, Jolie and Marissa Ellsworth and 6 Great-grandchildren. He is also survived by sisters, Valerie McMillan and Cheryl Vigneault and many nieces and nephews.
We are thankful for all the help given by Beacon Hospice and caregivers, especially Jacob Keppel, and our Friends and Church family.
Memorial and Graveside services will be held when travel restrictions are lifted. To leave online condolences at www.jspelkeyfuneralhome.com . Care for the Crossman family has been entrusted to the JS Pelkey & Son Funeral Home, Kittery, Maine.
