Obituary

Eliot- William E. English, 82 of Bolt Hill Road in Eliot, died on November 17, 2021 at his home surrounded by his loving family, following a battle against Alzheimer's with Parkinson's Disease.

Born in York, Maine on June 20, 1939, he was a son of the late Ernest C. and Hazel E. ( Hanson) English. He was raised primarily in Kittery attending local schools, graduating from R.W.Traip Academy with the class of 1957. He furthered his education in New Rochelle New York studying the newspaper industry.

On September 7, 1963, he married his loving wife of fifty eight years Gail ( Mitchell ) English and together they made their home in Eliot, first on Main Street, then building their home and raising their family on Bolt Hill Road.

Following high school he proudly served his country in the United States Navy. Bill enjoyed many years in the newspaper industry with the Portsmouth Herald before beginning a long career and retiring from the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, first as a custodian working his way into Shop #56 as a pipe fitter after graduating first in his large class of apprentices. He would later retire in 2001 as a planner/estimator. He with his friend Jerry Todd also owned and operated "All Makes Sewing Machine Repair".

Bill was a more than sixty year active member of Masonic Naval Lodge #184 in Kittery. Bill enjoyed hunting and fresh water fishing as well as raising ducks and his prized swans in his back yard pond. He shared his love of the outdoors with family and friends both, hunting, fishing, snow sledding and the like. He also helped to begin the Eliot Softball League.

He is survived by his loving wife Gail, daughters; Tammy Martel and her husband Joseph, and Susan Berounsky and her husband Brian, granddaughter Jamie Fultz and her husband Jon, grandchildren; Brian "Bee" Berounsky jr. and his wife Alex and Joey Martel and his wife Gulnar and Allyson Williams and her husband Zack, great grandchildren; Gabriella, Jacobie, and Kalianna Fultz and Eben and Rylan Camarato and his lifelong friend Jerry Poirier. He was predeceased by his grandson Adam Camarato, and sisters Doris, Eleanor, Betty, and Ruth who all referred to Bill as "Willy off the Pickle Boat " .

Friends are invited to visit with Bill's family on Sunday November 28, 2021 from 3pm-5pm in the JS Pelkey and Son Funeral Home, 125 Old Post Road Kittery Maine 03904.
