Sanford, ME – William R. Irving, Sr. 87, of Sanford passed away on Wednesday, March 9, 2016 at the Greenwood Center in Sanford, Maine.

He was born on September 7, 1928 in Hudson, Massachusetts, a son of William Henry and Daisy Mae (Ferguson) Irving.

William served in the United States Navy and as a Merchant Marine.

Prior to his retirement, Mr. Irving was employed as a machinist for Kidder Press in Dover.

William was an avid golfer, enjoyed rides on his motorcycle and working on his computer.

Survivors include his wife, Isabelle "Belle" (Gilman) Irving of Sanford; his children, William Irving Jr. of White City, Oregon, Darline Stephens of Bradenton, Florida, Gary Irving of Somersworth, NH, Wayne Irving of Somersworth, NH, Kim Irving of Old Town, ME, Faith Sherwood of Wilton, ME and Tammy Dayton of Sanford, ME; 14 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; a sister, Anita Pollard; many nieces and nephews.

Services: A memorial visitation will be held from 5-7PM with military honors at 6:45PM on Thursday, March 17, 2016 at J. S. Pelkey Funeral Home, 125 Old Post Road, Kittery, Maine. Interment will be in the family lot at Forest Hill Cemetery in Derry at a later date.
